Type History :
==============

The Fairey Firefly is a British Royal Navy fighter-reconnaissance aircraft that was prototyped in 1942 and went into service in 1943 on the aircraft carrier H.M.S.Idefatigable. It saw its first combat operations in Norway against the German battleship Tirpitz.
It operated mainly in the Pacific and was the first British aircraft to fly over Tokyo. There were 459 F.Mk.I built as fighters and 236
as photo reconnaissance. Other variants were built up to the Mk.7.The paint scheme is that of a Firefly Mk.III Night Fighter that flew with 796 Squadron during 1952/53.

Fairey Fireflies in Korea :
===============================

Several Firefly squadrons saw active service in the Korean War. These included 827 Squadron (with MK1s from HMS TRIUMPH), taking part in attacks on Haeju airfield, in ASW operations during the landings at Pohang; armed reconnaissance missions during the blockade of the West coast aimed at preventing North Korean supplies getting through to their troops in the South; and providing air cover for the convoys bringing the US Marines in for the landings at Inchon.
HMS THESEUS with the 17th Carrier Air Group (CAG) which included 810 Squadron with Firefly FR5s was involved in blockade operations in the Yellow Sea, spotting for minesweeping activities in the Chinnampo estuary; and ground support of the Allied troops ashore, and the disruption of enemy supplies and communications. A particularly distinguished record was achieved by the 14th CAG operating from HMS GLORY, which comprised the Firefly Mk5s of 812 Squadron and the Sea Furies of 804 Squadron. This Group flew 4834 operational sorties during the Korean War for the loss of only 27 aircraft.

Installation:
==============
-Installation in CFS2:
Unzip " FIREFLY NF MK1" into a temporary file and move the "FIREFLY NF MK1" folder into the main CFS2\Aircraft directory. You don't need the FS 2002 install file.
-Please read the text in "Warload.zip" explaining how to add the CFS2 weapons.

-Installation in FS2002/FS2004:
Unzip " FIREFLY NF MK1" into a temporary file and move the "FIREFLY NF MK1" folder into the main Aircraft directory.
-From the FS2002 install file :
Replace the the panel.cfg (in the panel folder in the FIREFLY NF MK1 FS2002\Aircraft directory). Let it overwrite the original one.
For FS 2002 you needn't copy the CDP and Dp files.
For FS2004 use the same action as for FS2002.
-With FS2002/2004 you get the Firefly Mk1, as no payloads are available with these sims.

Flying the model
================
This plane is a fair, non critical flying machine.
Under CFS2, it uses the default CFS2 weapons controls.

This project is released as freeware. You may modify it and repaint it. I include a palet.bmp for you to use the simple Microsoft paint program to change the colors of the plane. You may upload this file to another website as long as it is not for profit. You need the written permission of the original authors to use any of these files for commercial purposes, otherwise a simple credit would be nice. This file should not cause problems with your computer, but I accept no responsibility if you think it does.
Special thanks to Ted Simko for a nice original model .
